The Pre-Intermediate book contains practice in practical nursing with a focus on both verbal and written skills.Near authentic hospital charts are included for students to familiarise themselves with their use. 'Cambridge English for Nursing' Intermediate Plus follows with practice in the more technical areas usually undertaken by Registered or Endorsed Enrolled Nurses. Many nurses communicate in English at work,either in an English-speaking country or in their own country using English as a common language to communicate with patients who may be accidentally injured on holiday. English is also used to communicate with medical tourists. English for Medical Purposes encompasses the language used by a range of Healthcare Professionals.Nurses need to be able to use medical terms and also everyday health terms in order to communicate safely and effectively. The hospital environment can be pressured at times so confidence in using specific healthcare language is essential. About the Author
Virginia Allum is co-author of two 'Cambridge English for Nursing' books (with Patricia McGarr) and author of several 'English for Medical Purposes' books (for doctors, nurses and nursing assistants). She is a practising Registered Nurse with current experience in the UK and previous experience in Australia. She is a consultant in English for Medical Purposes with a particular focus on English for Nursing, writes a regular blog on her website e4nursingandhealthcare.com/ and is a guest contributor to infermiers.com, French online nursing magazine. Virginia recently co-presented at the first UK Teacher Training in EMP seminar and develops course materials and resources in EMP and EMP teacher training. She lives in the South-West of England.
