Melanie Radzicki McManus has been a news reporter at a Green Bay radio station, a press secretary at the Wisconsin State Capitol, and editor of two local publications. Since 1994, McManus has worked as a freelance writer and editor, specializing in travel and fitness. I loved this book

I loved this book. I am just getting into trail hiking myself, in a much smaller way. But I have experienced enough to know there are few who have the incredible drive to walk thousands of miles to experience our American landscape, nature, solitude, and to challenge themselves to do it day after day knowing there are snakes and bears and lions (well, big wild cats). I enjoyed the author's mastery of exposition, description, and character development woven in with history. I was frankly surprised at how delightful the book was. It's not just a "trail book." It's a great read.

Much more than a hike!

If this book were just a log of a record-setting hike, it would be interesting. But the author's impressive writing skills make it much more. She weaves in fascinating details of geology, history, adventure, personalities she meets on the trail, and life experiences, all with a witty style that makes the reader want to race through the book like thousand-miler. .

good practical resource

I bought this book on the recommendation of one of my colleagues. We used it quite a bit during review for our forensic pathology boards and in our day to day practice. The images and descriptions are great and there is even a good pictoral description on how to dissect the conduction system, which by the way is difficult to find elsewhere. It is a user friendly book with good information and images.

About the Author
Giorgio Bertotti is a senior scientist at INRIM, Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica (previously known as IEN Galileo Ferraris), in Torino, Italy, where he has been a researcher since 1979. His research interests are in the field of magnetism and magnetic materials, hysteresis modeling, thermodynamics, noise phenomena. He is author of more than 200 scientific articles and of the book "Hysteresis in Magnetism".

Prof. Mayergoyz received his Master and Ph.D. degrees in the former Soviet Union where he worked as a senior research scientist in the Institute of Cybernetics of Ukranian Academy of Sciences before his emigration to the United States. On his arrival to the United States in 1980, he became a full professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of University of Maryland, College Park. He served as a consultant for many years for the Research and Development Center of General Electric Company and has been selected as a visiting research fellow of this center. He has published more than 300 scientific papers and patents as well as eight scientific books. He has been recognized by many awards at the University of Maryland and at the Magnetics Society of IEEE. He is a recognized authority in magnetics which is the area of this book.
